“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves”  - Henry David Thoreau

A GUIDE TO GETTING LOST

  1. Take a walk somewhere new or without a destination.
  2. Sit on the grass and breathe deeply. Observe your surroundings. Taking in the colors and textures of everything.
  3. Carry your camera or phone and take a photo each day of something that intrigues you or has meaning to you.
  4. Listen to a song that is entirely different from your favorite genre.
  5. Free write in a journal without stopping. No judging. Just let the words flow into the next.
  6. Draw or paint something without having a specific thing in mind - just start, then finish.
  7. Google a question or a topic that you’re interested in. Keep reading articles about it or watching videos about it.
  8. Drive without a destination in mind. Take a right turn then maybe a left then another left. Listen to what your gut is saying. Stop when you feel ready and observe where you are. Go explore.
  9. Do something nostalgic or go someplace nostalgic. Pretend to be a little kid again.
  10. Go to a different grocery store than you usually go to and make a new recipe. Use all your five senses while cooking and eating it.
  11. Go to a new store that you’ve never been to and try on clothes that you usually don’t wear. Record how they make you feel.
  12. Explore a new area of your town or if you have the resources go to a new neighborhood or city that you’ve never been before. Take photos or video of the place.
